One of owerri finest artist but a unique one at that takes us down a memory lane of who he was before becoming a saxophonist.
This is what he has to say about himself;
My name is Nwanto Ernest Daberechi. My friends call me Target.
I hail from Eziama in Ngor Okpala local government area of Imo state. Had my secondary education at Rochas Foundation College, Owerri. I then proceeded to Abia State University, Uturu where I obtained a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Resource Management.
Before switching to the use of my horns (saxophone), I had long been into music. Been a part of several choirs. The most outstanding of them being the African Children’s Choir.
A lot of factors motivated me towards the path I now follow. One of which is my desire to kinda perpetually give thanks to God through music because it is through music that He turned my life around.
Whenever I get to blow the sax, I feel blessed, I feel joy, I feel a kinda fulfilment. Other times I can’t explain the feeling at all.
God has really taken me places and gotten to meet great people via the use of my sax. I may not be one of the best in town but to be honest, I’ve got grace overdose. Getting to meet Jacob Zuma(former South African President) was of the epic scenes of my life as a saxophonist.
Yer, I’ve got a long way to go if you ask me. To improve my pace on this path I’ve taken, I really have to put in my 100%. More of my energy has to be channeled towards my horns in the form of rehearsals. And also believe in prayers, with it I know I’d get to the very top.
